Alert regarding false Zapatistas

July 14, 1995

To the people of Mexico:
To the peoples and governments of the world:
To the National and International Press:

We want to give our thoughts regarding an important issue.

We have known that some people have presented themselves in various states of the Mexican republic saying that they are part of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation and offering training, weapons and incorporation into our lines, as well as asking for dues for collaborating.

We want to say that the EZLN does not have any people carrying out this type of work. All of our soldiers in Mexico are living as guerrillas waiting for the results of the dialogue and participating in the plebiscites regarding the themes that it addresses. The EZLN is not offering any training, nor arms, nor incorporation into its combat lines because it has a commitment to exhaust the political route to solve the conflict. We want to make this clear so that the good faith and generosity of the Mexican people is not taken advantage of. We make this warning so that the actions of the agents of the bad government are not overlooked, as they seek to sully our EZLN and to create a provocation for the return to a military solution, and to detect and eliminate those people who show an interest in the armed struggle. At this time the EZLN is calling for a political mobilization and national dialogue, not war.
