The Peace and Justice paramilitary group is organizing

La Paz Autonomous Municipality,
Chiapas.
September 6, 2002.

To the Fray Bartolome' de las Casas Human Rights Center
To the National and International Press

The nine EZLN support base families are writing to those engaged in human rights in order to denounce the actions which are about to take place in our community, Nuevo Poblado Agua Azul, which belongs to La Paz Autonomous Municipality.

According to rumors which are circulating everywhere, the Peace and Justice paramilitary group is organizing, along with members of the Federal Army and Public Security, in order to come in and dislocate us from our above-mentioned community. This information which is coming out has been spread by members of the Peace and Justice group themselves. We, as EZLN support bases, consider these acts of violence to be a clear provocation by the state and federal governments, in violation of the San Andre's Larra'inzar Accords, signed in the year of 1995. We are, therefore, immediately denouncing this to you, so that you may be aware of, and intervene, as quickly as possible in what might be taking place in our community. In this way, bloody incidents, like those which have occurred in other communities in Ricardo Flores Mago'n quite recently, can be avoided. We do not want those incidents to be repeated, we want to live in peace and not with violence.

There being no other matters to attend to, that is all, it being 11 AM on the 6th of September of 2002.

Sincerely,

La Paz Autonomous Municipality

[Seal]
