To Human Rights Organizations, as well as the National and International Press and Civil Society
That, on last Saturday, September 8, 2001, a new attack by a group of paramilitaries took place against a house owned by Don Antonio, a member of the community. The attack took place a few kilometers from the community, close to Don Antonio's field. He had a house which he used for living in and for storing maize.
The 6X5 meter house, made of laminate, wood and with a guano roof, was completely burned down, as was everything inside the house
Around the house, 7 fruit trees which belonged to him were also completely reduced to ashes. The house was left totally unusable. The owner is not going to be able to fix it. In addition to the loss of materials which this means, one must add the level of setback involved, since there will not be anyplace to store the maize which is coming on.
We must also add that, along with the material which was inside the house, the owner had been planning on building tables and chairs, which will now be impossible. This is one more act in the long chain of attacks which this person has been suffering throughout these last months.
Given all the above, we are denouncing:
The injustice and cruelty of the attack, as well as of all the rest of the attacks, harassment and threats which this person, and the rest of the community, have been suffering.
Aside from the damages which were caused to this property, we are denouncing the ecological disaster which could have been occasioned if the fire had spread, given that it is on land with much vegetation.
