We zapatistas do not want a confrontation with our own brothers from the ARIC

Sept 2000

Denuncia to Public Opinion

Brothers and Sisters
To the National and International Press.

The Autonomous Authorities of Francisco Go'mez, Chiapas, Denounce the Following Incidents:

On Thursday, September 21, 2000, members of the ARIC-Independent and Democratic of the San Miguel Ejido, Municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas, invaded the town of San Marcos, Autonomous Municipality of Francisco Go'mez, Chiapas, which the zapatista support base compeneros have had possession of since 1996. The brothers who are provoking problems with the zapatista support bases are from the San Manuel Ejido.

The land problem is being led by that ARIC-Independent and Democratic organization's agrarian committee, Senor Francisco Jime'nez Mendoza and Jesu's Lorenzo Jime'nez Miguel Clara. All of these persons are from the San Miguel Ejido.

And, if these brothers give any thought to these problems, they think that the solution for confronting the problems is provocation. We, the zapatistas, have words, but, if what those brothers are seeking is confrontation, they shall find it quite quickly, because they are carrying out the same policies as the bad government.

And so what we zapatistas want is for the human rights commission to investigate these provocations by the ARIC-Independent and Democratic, before the zapatistas make a decision concerning the San Marcos problem. Because we zapatistas do not want a confrontation with our own brothers from the ARIC. If they provoke us, however, we shall respond to their attacks.
