The suspension of the San Quintin-Amador Hernandez road

COMMUNIQUE FROM THE INDIGENOUS REVOLUCIONARY CLANDESTINE GENERAL COMMITEE OF THE ZAPATISTA NATIONAL LIBERATION ARMY. MEXICO, 27 AUGUST 1999

TO THE PEOPLE OF MEXICO TO THE PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD TO THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PRESS

Yesterday August 26 1999, during the night the news was heard that the secretary of Government announced the suspension of the San Quintin-Amador Hernandez road with a supposed agreement with the Secretary of Government and the COCOPA.

About this, we say the following:

1. The announcement is ridiculous, because the construction of the road is obviously suspended because of the resistance of the indigenous brothers and sisters of the zone of Amador Hernandez in opposition to the militarization.

The troops of the Federal Army remain in Amador Hernandez and continue their work of fortification, supply and weapons emplacements, announcing that they will stay there indefinitely.

2. In regards to the announcement by some members of the COCOPA who give more credence to the Federal Army in its version of the government attack on the community of San Jose La Esperanza, and not to what the EZLN says, we say that it is obvious: there people who believe those who have money and power, and not those who have truth and reason.

The Zapatista National Liberation Army calls upon National and International Civil Society not to let themselves be fooled by these supposed strains.

On Indian land in Mexico the war continues.

That is everything.
