Defend the possibility of dialogue,
defend San Andres

April 9, 1999.

To the State, Special, Regional and Municipal Coordinators of the Consulta:
To All the Promotion Brigades for the Consulta:
To National and International Civil Society:

Brothers and sisters:

In opposition to the will of millions of Mexicans, the government carries on with its war against the Indian peoples of Mexico.

In the past days, the government took by force the Municipality of San Andres Sakamch'en de los Pobres, the seat of the dialogue and the place where the first peace accords were signed, which Zedillo has not complied with.

Through a peaceful mobilization, we zapatistas have recovered the seat of dialogue, but the government threatens a bloody dislocation, which is why it is concentrating troops in various points in Chiapas.

Because of this, we are making this call, so that, together with us, you will mobilize in order to stop the new attack that is being prepared, and force the government to abandon once and for all the dangerous game of war it is insisting on.

Reason, truth, history and legitimacy are on our side.

On the government's side there is only money and brute force.

Together we will defend the possibility of dialogue, defending San Andres.

Democracy!
Liberty!
Justice!
