Denuncia To Public Opinion

Brothers and Sisters:
To the National and International Press:

The Authorities of the Francisco Gomez Ejido, previously La Garrucha, denounce the following incidents:

On Friday, November 5, 1999, at approximately 11 in the morning, in the Military Camp that is located some 500 meters from the Autonomous seat of Francisco Gomez, Chiapas, weapon fire was heard from federal army troops.

The residents state that, at the same time, there were overflights by helicopters and by a blue airplane with yellow bands. They flew very low over this town.

In addition, federal army troops could be seen firing their pistols at the spring close to the community.

The ejidal authorities are therefore denouncing these incidents, the federal army troops firing their weapons close to the community. The authorities are very concerned over this, since the residents travel through these lands and plots, and they could be wounded or killed.
