We are denouncing:

The road blockade that takes in the San Jose' el Contento junction, now the "NUEVA PATRIA" New Population Center, is continuing today. At 1:00 PM, some representatives from the Department of Government presented themselves, trying to intervene in the problem that has arisen in that town, in which they wanted to know the reason for the matter. During the talk they had with the residents, they did not come to any agreement, because the Government's envoys had brought with them a strategy prepared to deceive the people, in which they should let the machinery go by, since it had been known from the beginning that they were going to pave from Crucero San Jose' to Sitala'.

But they are now saying that the paving will only be done for 2 (two) kilometers, and it is for this reason that it is now known that it is just Political propaganda, and at the last minute they shall not carry out their commitments, and so the residents reject the lies as long as the San Andre's Accords, signed on February 16, 1996, are not carried out.

We are positively aware of the fact that only two Ejidos are in on the repression of building the road, mainly Sibaca and San Marcos, and the other communities are not in agreement.

Even though they say they have the majority of the residents in favor of that work, according to reports by Adolfo Gutie'rrez Cruz, Municipal President of Ocosingo, published in the Cuarto Poder newspaper this November 18.

Added: That the PRI group headed by the paving company owners; at about 3:00 PM on the same day, blocked the international highway that goes from Ocosingo to Palenque at the San Jose' el Contento crossroads, preventing all vehicles from going through, for the purpose of solving the problem.
